College Publishing Travel

Just a bit of a typewriter

Just got back from a week of travel. First to our daughter’s college then to NYC for publishing meetings. The past week has been a busy one. Actually the past year has been a busy one. I was never gone more than a week but I have travelled on 7 trips this year! 7! I added them up just now.

  1. College Auditions in January
  2. Friend’s wedding in March
  3. Niece’s wedding in May
  4. NY theatre trip with oldest in June
  5. Family to College orientation in July
  6. Move to college in August
  7. Family weekend and NY on business

Phew! Tired just thinking about it! I am a wiz at packing now, but I still hate unpacking. The family weekend was a blast. Spent some time hanging in her dorm room with her friends, going to dinner, going to the pregame festivities and meeting her friends and their parents. It was great. Then I jumped on a plane to NYC really early last Monday. I had a free day on Monday and hung out with my mom and had dinner with my brother and our friend and webmaster.

We get to do something that a lot of authors never do. We go to meetings with all the departments at the publisher. I love it as it is a look inside the publishing business and I learn a great deal and then try to apply the lessons to my own work.

Indie authors want to learn how to do it better so I listen closely. It is interesting that some of the issues that have come up with the new way books are published are also issues the major houses are dealing with so we are not alone in our search for answers. The internet, social media and sales of ebooks are all important factors in the sale of a book.

I am home now and now I will begin a new project. I am waiting on my editor to send back my latest book. In the meantime…The keys are being struck.

Hello, Angelique, this is Tennessee Dave from the forum if you recall. I was just searching for a new quote for LL when I found myself on your website. How interesting!
Well, getting to the point of my reason for contacting you, because I know you are a true descendant of your dad and tend to stay busy, I saw where you have considered starting an online creative writing class.
If you’ve followed the forum very much over the years you probably have seen where I’ve stated my wish to learn writing skills. I’ve been aware of the need for professional instruction and this would be a great opportunity. I have several novels and short stories started but without guidance I flounder.
If I may be permitted to sign up for your classes I assure you I will work diligently to complete lessons and perfect the craft.
Here’s to hoping you’re still considering the endeavor!
    Sincerely, David Parmenter

Oh my gosh I wish I was ready! I am working on other things right now but I will keep your email and let you know when/if I get that together. I don’t spend a lot of time on the discussion forum but I do check in about 1 time a month. I will let you know. Thank you so much, Tennessee Dave!
