four years ago I found The Get In Touch Foundation. It was there as a beacon of light to teach my daughters the importance of and how to do a breast self exam. A foundation dedicated to putting into one’s hands the power to save a life.
As many of you know I instantly became a huge fan of the work they were doing and became best friends with the founder Mary Ann Wasil. honestly when you are going through chemo and bald headed and feeling pathetic occasionally don’t you want to see this woman? Screaming and throwing her wigs at the camera? Doesn’t she look powerful and positive.? Honestly she lifted me right up out of my seat to shout, “Hell, Yeah!” at my computer!
She is also this woman my dear friend and my light in the dark and my hero.

So after last March’s successful event I am now officially, as of tonight’s board meeting, a member of the board of The Get In Touch Foundation.

Just two weeks ago I was again reminded of how important it is to do what we do. I personally heard of three young women, one at 23 and two at 22 years old, with metastatic stage IV breast cancer. Would the knowledge of how to do breast self exam have kept them from having this stage diagnosis. I don’t know. What I do know is that not one of them had made it a habit prior to their diagnosis. This needs to change. Girls need to make it a habit. Women need to make it a habit so that we catch this crappy illness at stage 0(yes there is a stage 0) or stage I and have terrific prognosis for being cured. We all search for “no evidence of disease. ” That is the dream and that is the plan.
